Trilateral meeting: Meeting to combat telecom fraud in Myawady

Starting from January 30, 2025, until February 17, through border routes from neighboring countries, including Thailand, a total of 1,303 foreign nationals who had entered Myanmar illegally through Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas in Myawady Township of Kayin State, engaging in illegal online gambling, online fraud, and criminal activities, were identified and detained.

The responsible officials are currently working to transfer these detained foreign nationals to their respective countries in accordance with the legal procedures.

In coordination with this process, a team from Myanmar, China, and Thailand, including Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen. Aung Kyaw Kyaw and officials, officials from the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, led by Assistant Minister Mr. Liu Zhong Yi, and General Secretary of the National Defense Ministry of Thailand, General TrisakIndararusmi, arrived in Myawady in the morning on 7th February.

The trilateral team is investigating and identifying foreign nationals who have entered Myanmar through illegal routes in the Myawady-Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas, monitoring the status of detained individuals, gathering personal information and records, and assessing their conditions.

The representatives from three countries met in Myawady and held a coordination meeting to discuss the swift transfer of the detained foreign nationals to their respective countries. They also discussed measures for combating (telecom fraud), implementing a system to prevent such fraud across the three countries, and working towards clearing telecom fraud zones in the Myawady region.

Furthermore, they discussed the efficient and coordinated process for transferring individuals involved in the telecom fraud to the appropriate countries.

The State has been actively investigating and taking effective action to tackle illegal online fraud activities, as well as preventing illegal online gambling and financial fraud in border areas. Myanmar will continue its efforts, working with international organizations and neighboring countries, to investigate, uncover, and take appropriate action against these illegal activities.
