Red Dao fire jumping festival kicks off in Lao Cai

The Fire Jumping Festival of the Dao ethnic group was recently held in Nậm Đét commune, Lào Cai province, as part of the Bắc Hà White Plateau Festival. The event attracted numerous tourists, drawn by the impressive display of bravery by young Dao men. Over a dozen participants crossed fire with bare feet, showcasing their courage. 

In preparation since Lunar New Year, young men aged 12 and above carefully maintained their physical fitness, cleaned their bodies and clothes and learned traditional rituals, Nôm characters, and fire-jumping techniques. For the Red Dao people, the festival is both a way to express New Year wishes and a celebration of strength and bravery.
