





Marking the 78th Anniversary of Union Day, sports competitions were held at the Training School for the Development of Person with Intellectual Disability in Kyan Sit Min Housing of Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon on February 12.
During the sports competitions, children enjoyed many types of sports including race, coloured cup picking, cycling and tug of war.
Principal,Training School for the Development of PWID, Khin Than Nwe, said " To commemorate the Union Day, our school held the sports competitions for person with intellectual disability and this year marks the 3rd time of celebration. Holding sports events can assist our teaching methods because we conduct hearing, vision and sensation lessons to them."
Nowadays, sports competitions for person with disabilities have been held in many countries, creating the inclusive society. As part of this concept, the training school provides their trainees with skills to be able to participate in the sports competitions both locally and internationally.
Colonel Myo Myint (Retired), Patron, Training School for the Development of PWID, said " Here at the training school for person with intellectual disability, we conduct trainings for physically and mentally well-being of person with intellectual disability. Through today’s sports competitions, they could improve their physical strength and communication skill. I would like to urge the parents of person with intellectual disability to enroll their children at our school."
At the Training School for the Development of Person with Intellectual Disability, trainees are conducted lessons for both basic and physical education. Likewise, the training school conducts the courses for those who are taking care of person with disabilities at home.
Staff Officer, Aung Lwin, Department of Social Welfare, said " Our department is providing trainings and health care services depending on 4 types of disabilities: vision impairment disability, hearing impairment disability, physical disability and intellectual disability at different training schools. I believe that the training schools could provide opportunities for person with disabilities."
Through participating in the sports events organized by the training schools, person with intellectual disabilities could gain benefits in building self-confidence and enhancing skills.
