AML/CFT meeting: Chair of CBM gave an opening speech

A meeting of Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Task Force held its meeting at the Central Bank of Myanmar on Tuesday and the Task Force Chair and Central Bank of Myanmar Chair Daw Than Than Swe delivered the opening remarks.

During the meeting, Chair of the Task Force and Central Bank of Myanmar Daw Than Than Swe, highlighted that following the participation in the 13th Asia Pacific Joint Group (APJG) Plenary meeting from January 14 to 15, regarding the progress report on the implementation of Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism measures, Myanmar achieved a significant milestone.

Specifically, Immediate Outcome 10/11.1, one of the remaining action plan items, has been elevated to a high level of compliance. She emphasized the need to complete the remaining action items within the stipulated timeframe and to pre-coordinate the points to be discussed at the upcoming FATF (Financial Action Task Force) plenary meeting.

Additionally, the Task Force members discussed amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering Law in line with FATF recommendations, the process of enhancing collaboration with law enforcement agencies to conduct parallel financial investigations and identify proceeds of crime more effectively, and the ongoing action plan items, particularly Immediate Outcomes 6, 7, and 8.

They also planned to implement these outcomes in accordance with FATF recommendations within the specified timeframe, with technical assistance as required by respective departments. Furthermore, they pre-coordinated the points to be discussed at the FATF plenary meeting scheduled within this month.
