Coordination Meeting: Extended cultivation of quality native wheat species

A Coordination Meeting on extended cultivation of quality native wheat species for production of foodstuff was held at the Agricultural Research Department in Nay Pyi Taw Zeyathiri Township on Thursday.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung attended the meeting and outlined the plans to cultivate quality native wheat species extensively for import substitution of raw materials for foodstuff production. He called for cooperation of private millers for success of the project.

The meeting discussed the current cultivation acreage, plans for extended cultivation and production of hybrid wheat species. At present, over 126,000 acres of 15 local species wheat plantations have been cultivated across six regions ad states in the country. The annual crop yields amounted to over 2.9 million basket, achieving more than 727,000 tons of flour.
