







Heavy rain in June 2024 caused riverbank erosion in Lawan Ka Taung and Ho Law villages on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River in Myitkyina Township of Kachin State. Currently, construction of rock retaining walls is underway to protect these villages from river erosion. On February 3rd, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan made field inspection of the construction processes along with the meeting of local residents.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister heard the reports on placing of Geo Bags to control riverbank erosion and working project for construction of 3,000 long stone embankment with the budget of the state government fund as well as the needs for regional development by the official from Directorate of Water Resources and Development of River Systems. Upon the reports, the Chief Minister coordinated the requirement.
During his visit to Sitapu Island, the Chief Minister coordinated the needs upon plans to dredge over 518,000 cubic meters on the island during 2025-2026 Fiscal Year for prevention to control water level ensuring the smooth flow of the water. Subsequently, the Chief Minister fulfilled the requirement upon the reports for building a 1265-foot long retaining wall and embankment along the riverbank above Balamin Htin Bridge.
In the afternoon, the Chief Minister proceeded to the hall of the State Government Office where he provided 10 million kyats cash assistance to the staff and prinsoners from Bhamo Prison.
On February 4th, the Chief Minister and wife and party attended closing ceremony of Islamic Religious and Cultural Training held at the Aung Nan Mosque in Aung Nan Ward and made a speech. After the clarifications on the purposes of conducting the training by the officials, the Chief Minister presented certificates of honour, completion certificates and 1 million kyats cash reward to the winner trainees.
