Maritime Trade: Efforts for development of ports in Yangon

Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun visited the Offshore Fixed Pilot Station of the Myanma Port Authority at the mouth of Yangon River on January 25th.

In meeting with the staff, the Deputy Minister emphasized for worksite safety and long term sustainability of the facility. Yangon Port handles 75% of international trade volume, contributing to the socio-economic development of the nation.

Myanma Port Authority is implementing the silt dredging works in the Yangon River for keeping the depth of water level to certain standard, along with the systematic placement of signal buoyages for safe navigation. Plans are also underway for implementing the port development works at the designated sites
