Work Coordination Meeting : Central Farmland Management Committee meeting

The Central Farmland Management Committee held its work coordination meeting  at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on 23rd January.

During the meeting, Committee Chairman and Union Minister U Min Naung gave an opening speech, emphasizing on the improvement of agriculture sector in accordance with laws, bylaws  and regulations. In order to apply for permisssion to use farmland for alternate purpose, the Farmland Management Committees at each level are urged to conduct field inspection along with the scrutinizing on recommendations of respective departments.

He also noted to verify whether there has been prior use of land and to take strict action to those who violated the restrictions, as well as the department staff who fail to enforce the regulations properly. The Farmland Management Committee at each level are also instructed to make thorough scrutiny process for compensation and settlement fees to ensure that farmers and landowners who have obtained land use rights are not harmed, and to facilitate the timely and efficient payment of compensation without unnecessary delays or hindrances.

The Union Minister also discussed the permission for alternative crop plantation initiative if that are suitable with the region without posting any negative impact on rice production and the surrounding farmland. The meeting focused on the payment of compensation and settlement fees and the submission of requests for alternative use of farmland across the country.
