Meeting on Kyaukphyu SEZ: Meeting on Kyaukphyu SEZ Deep Sea Port Project held

The Ministry of Commerce hosted a meeting on Tuesday in Nay Pyi Taw to address the Conditions Precedent for the successful execution of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port Project, involving both Myanmar and CITIC.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of Myanmar Special Economic Zones Central Working Committee Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw and Committee Vice Chairman Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn.

At the meeting, Committee Chairman Union Minister Dr. Kan Zaw emphasized the need for coordination with relevant departments to ensure timely work completion, meeting the April 26, 2025 deadline before the expiration of the extended Long Stop Date of Concession Agreement for the Kyaukphyu SEZ Deep Sea Port Project.Next, Committee Vice Chairman U Tun Ohn instructed that, as per the Shareholders' Agreement, Myanmar and China must complete the pre-project tasks within the specified period for the implementation of the Kyaukphyu SEZ Deep Sea Port Project.

The Chairman of the Kyaukphyu SEZ Management Committee then provided a detailed explanation of the Conditions Precedent to be met by both parties and presented the current status of their completion.

Representatives from relevant departments reported on the Conditions Precedent for both Myanmar and CITIC and the status of timely completion for the project.Then, the Committee Chairman Union Minister coordinated the needs based on the reports.
