





Efforts are underway to improve agricultural practices in Bago Region, with advancements being made year by year.
On January 16, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw conducted an inspection of the irrigation water supply from the right main canal and its tributary of the Wegyi Dam in Paungde Township.
During the inspection, the Deputy Minister received reports on the 2024-2025 summer paddy cultivation in the Wegyi Dam catchment area and instructed efficient water distribution, using the alternate water supply system as well as solar-powered water supply and automatic pumps for highland farms.
The Deputy Minister then visited U Kyaw Naing's duck farm in Nat Padi Village and inspected a 150-acre winter bean plot within the Wegyi Dam catchment area. He urged local farmers and officials to conduct effective awareness activities, select good varieties of seed and tackle irrigation challenges in accordance with set standards. He coordinated with relevant departmental officials to resolve issues and provided inputs to farmers.
The Deputy Minister later met with officials at the Pyay Township Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department. During the meeting, they discussed achieving crop yield targets, expanding triple cropping and increasing oilseed cultivation. They also focused on planning extended water supply for cotton plantations and highland farms and developing the livestock sector.
