Celebration in Lahe: Naga Traditional New Year Festival

Naga Traditional New Year Festival took place in Lahe of Naga Self-Administered Zone on January 15th.

Member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Defence General Maung Maung Aye attended the festival and extended greetings, urging all to keep on working in unity for development of the region with peace and stability.

The celebration continued with New Year greetings, briefing on the history of Naga New Year and presenting New Year gift. Provisions for regional development were also provided during the event.

The Naga Traditional New Year Festival featured variety of activities including the display of traditional cultural booths and exhibitions by the government departments. At night, a Bon-Fire was held to celebrate the Naga Traditional New Year, which featured the traditional performances of Naga tribes.

Naga Traditional New Year Festival has been held, aiming to preserve and safeguard the traditional customs and cultural heritage of Naga people, to safeguard and promote the Naga traditional cultural arts, to enhance friendship and mutual understanding among the Naga tribes, to participate in the development works in the region, and to nurture the union spirit fostering the national consolidation based on the existing friendship among the Naga tribes. The festival used to attract visitors from home and abroad, participating in the Bon-Fire together with the locals.
