Ice Dragon Boat Race held in Ningxia

Twenty-three teams of paddlers gathered in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on Sunday for the championship of the ice dragon boat race.

Competing in six events, over 700 participants raced in dragon boats on wheels, using metal rods to paddle across the ice.

This winter variation of the traditional water sport has gained popularity in northern China, with Yinchuan being one of its birthplace cities. The event, now a decade-old tradition, is officially recognized as a sports event in the city. The unique race highlights Ningxia’s efforts to promote winter sports and engage local communities.
