Wintering Ground: Migratory birds arriving at Moeyungyi Lake

Moeyungyi Lake in Bago Region is one of Myanmar's Ramsar Sites, and over 20,000 migratory birds from 115 species take shelter there, according to the Warden of Moeyungyi Wildlife Sanctuary.

The arrival of migratory birds is lower this year compared to last year, due to the high water levels, which have reached over 10 feet at their maximum depth. However, officials expect the number of arrivals to increase by the end of this month. Migratory and water birds can be seen in and around the areas of Moeyungyi Lake.

Over 3,700 water birds from 30 migratory species have made Moeyungyi Lake their habitat. These migratory birds begin taking shelter in Moeyungyi Wildlife Sanctuary in the last week of October and migrate to the northern pole by the last week of April.
