In the Shan State (South), within the Phekhon Township, members of PNLO, KNDF, and individuals associated with the PDF have been carrying out violent activities since January 2024.
They entered villages and neighborhoods within the township, occupying residential homes and engaging in acts of destruction and violence. Due to these actions, local indigenous people were unable to accept such behavior, leading them to report to the Tatmadaw.
In response, security forces carried out necessary territorial security operations in the affected areas, which led to clashes with the PNLO, KNDF, and PDF-linked militants. The militants, under pressure, retreated and fled the area.During their retreat, the militants set fire to homes within the villages, used weapons to enforce power and kill civilians, and forcibly looted items from the local indigenous people.
As a result, many local indigenous people had to temporarily flee to safer areas. Thanks to the security operations carried out by the Tatmadaw, peace and stability have been restored to the region. This has allowed local indigenous people, who had previously fled, to return to their villages, rebuild their homes, resume their livelihoods, and engage in reconstruction efforts. In the morning on January 6, security forces carried out cleanup and rebuilding efforts in roadside areas and at the Lourdes Church (Medaw Cave) in Phekhon Township, assisting local people in their return and reconstruction activities.
These efforts were observed and supported by the Lt-Gen. Naing Naing Oo from the Office of Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services, Commander of East Command and officials, who visited and provided cash donations to the Lourdes - Church.
They also donated rice, oil, food supplies, and cash donations to the monks and religious leaders in the area at the Nat Taw Monastery.Additionally, it has been reported that Lt-Gen. Naing Naing Oo and officials provided food and monetary rewards to the departmental staff in Phekhon Township for their dedicated service.
