Security Measures: Seven suspects arrested for committing terrorist acts

Members of the Together Urban Force Terrorist Group were arrested for committing terrorist acts in Yangon Region.

On December 22nd, 2024, a military officer and his sister were injured by gunfire while returning from a wedding ceremony in Mayangon Township. The investigation was conducted based on a tip-off from vigilant citizens.

On the 29th, five suspects were arrested in West Gyokone Ward, Insein Township, along with explosive devices and related items. The interrogation led to the seizure of various arms, ammunition, explosive devices, and related items at the compound of Yadana Theinkha Monastery and the house of a fugitive at large in Kayin National Ward, Kyimyindaing Township.

One more suspect was arrested, while two remain at large. Further investigation also led to the arrest of another suspect in Insein Township on January 2nd.

According to the investigation, two of the suspects attended a one-week terrorist training near Hnget Aw San Village in Kawt Hmu Township, while another attended a 10-day terrorist training at KNLA Battalion (6) near Lay Kae Kaw Myothit in Myawady Township in 2021. One of them went to Mae Sot, Thailand, after the training, where they lived until July 2023 before returning to Yangon.

They collected cash through a 'Sakura' Facebook account and also requested cash assistance through a Telegram account to form the Together Urban Force Terrorist Group. They were involved in six explosions and two murder plots.

The arms and ammunition used for the terrorist acts were provided by Ko Myo (@ Saya Kyaung @ Ulay Gyi via Thaukkya (@ Kaung Set Thwe @ Aung Myat Thu, who remain at large. Effective action will be taken in accordance with the law, and the public is advised to report any information confidentially about the terrorists.
