





Apo, one of the 7,500 islands of the Philippines is, the first zero waste island of the Philippines, a country who produces a third of plastics found in all the world’s oceans. With 400 coral species, 650 fishes and turtles everywhere, the island becomes a kind of environmental test laboratory.
Apo’s 1,000 inhabitants made dedicated efforts to emerge such a marine protected natural reserve. Regulations have been placed such as forbidding to touch plants or aquatic species to the divers. Strict measures are also practiced to ensure nothing goes in the sea. Collected waste is sold to a neighbouring island who conducts the recycling.
