Kayin New Year in Myitkyina: Kachin State CM attended the Kayin New Year celebration

On the morning of December 30th, the Kayin New Year celebration for the year 2764 of the Kayin calendar was held at the Kayin Christian Church in Dukahtaung Ward, Myitkyina Township, Kachin State and was attended by  the Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan, and wife, as well as the responsible officials.

At the ceremony led by patrons of the Kayin ethnic literature and culture committee, the Committee chairman U Aung Min Kyi, extended a welcoming speech. During the event, commemorative gifts were presented to the elderly Kayin national people as a mark of respect and honor.

The Chief Minister expressed pride in Kachin State being a place where various ethnic groups live together in harmony. He congratulated the Kayin ethnic people for celebrating their New Year in a peaceful and unified manner and emphasized the need for continued collaboration and unity for the stability, peace, and development of the state.

Following this, the chairman of the Kayin literature and culture committee presented New Year gifts to the Chief Minister and the attendees. In recognition of their contributions, the Chief Minister and wife provided 20 million kyats to the committee.

Next, the Kayin ethnic youth performed traditional dances, which were enthusiastically supported by the attendees. The Chief Minister also presented appreciation awards to the dance groups and encouraged the sale of traditional Kayin clothing at the church.

The Kayin National New Year ceremony, organized annually by the Kayin literature and culture committee, began at 6:00 AM with the raising of both the national flag and the Kayin ethnic flag. The event also included a speech about the significance of the Kayin New Year, the Kayin ethnic flag, and the Kayin people’s culture. Traditional dances were performed, and children participated in sports competitions as part of the celebration.
