Anti-Terrorism: Central Committee meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw

State Administration Council Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, in his capacity as Chairman of the Anti-Terrorism Central Committee presided over the committee’s meeting at the Areindama Hall of the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday afternoon.

At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed the political, social and economic impacts of terrorism, the evolving tactics of terrorist groups, and UN Security Council resolutions on drones, the role of AI in counter-terrorism, the links between terrorism, drugs, money laundering and arms smuggling. He also stressed the need for international cooperation and a national anti-terrorism strategy.

The meeting also covered the Central Anti-Terrorism Unit's tasks, fatalities and injuries from terrorist violence, the seizure of weapons during operations, actions under the Counter-Terrorism Law, international information exchange on terrorism, funding for counter-terrorism efforts and rewards for those complying with the legal framework.

The discussions also focused on controlling terrorist assets and funds and prohibiting their illegal financing, revising working groups per regulations and preparatory works for implementation of the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

The meeting concluded after discussions on addressing terrorism in response to evolving challenges, enhancing international cooperation, raising awareness, managing funds to counter extremism and controlling the financing of terrorism and related financial flows.
