The Ministry of Labor held its inauguration of the workshop on the Human Development Index (HDI) for Users at the Assembly Hall of the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.
Union Minister U Myint Naung attended the event and delivered a speech. In his speech, the Union Minister highlighted the Ministry's objectives, including conducting labor research and collecting labor market data. He noted that the Ministry has been working on the Human Development Indicators Manual for uniform use across all ministries and sustainable development.
Since 1997, the manual has been compiled annually with UNFPA's assistance and since 2007, with the state budget. The 2021-2023 edition marks the 23rd publication. The Union Minister highlighted that regularly publishing the manual provides reliable data for policy-making, assessing economic progress and improving living standards, marking a key milestone in the nation’s human resources development.
In line with this, the Ministry of Labor is leading the development and use of HDI, in coordination with the experts from 44 departments and organizations from 21 ministries, 4 universities/colleges, 1 committee and 2 associations.
The event featured a documentary photo session, followed by sector-wise discussions and group reviews of the Human Development Indicators Manual, with recommendations and future plans for the 2023-2024 edition.
