Iceland has both a female President and a female Prime Minister for the first time, after Kristrun Frostadottir was appointed as the Prime Minister.
Frostadottir, the Head of the Social Democratic Alliance, announced her appointment on Saturday. She is the youngest Prime Minister in the country's history. Her party agreed to form a coalition government with two other parties.
The current Heads of all the governing parties are women. Seven of the 11 Cabinet Ministers named on Saturday are also women. Iceland has topped the World Economic Forum's global report on gender equality for the 15th consecutive year.
