Victory in Sports: Welcoming the Shan State representing sports team

Shan State secured second place in the State and Region Level event of the 5th National Sports Festival.

The victorious sports team returned to Taunggyi on December 21st, where they were warmly welcomed by the local populace. The athletes marched in a procession from the Myanmar Economic Bank to the State Training Sports Stadium, receiving garlands from the local people along the way.

Chief Minister U Aung Aung also honoured the athletes at a ceremony, held at the City Hall on Sunday. He expressed appreciation for bringing prestige to the state, and urged all to keep on working collective efforts for achieving more success in the upcoming events.

During the event, well-wishers made contribution for the sports team, and the cash awards and certificates of honour were presented to the winning athletes. Shan State competed in 23 types of sports for State and Region Level event, and grabbed medals in 18 types of sports. The team secured 27 gold, 32 silver and 41 bronze medals during the sports festival.
