A taxi driver with previous records of overcharging on fares was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison, after committing the crimes again two months ago. The case was heard in the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts in Hong Kong, where the 54-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to four counts of overcharging on taxi fares.

The Chief Magistrate noted that the defendant had been jailed for more than 10 weeks in the past for committing the same crime. The defendant was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison and fined 5,000 dollars. Case details revealed that the passenger in the defendant’s taxi on October 4th was a police officer working undercover. The defendant did not start the taximeter and charged the officer 150 dollars for the taxi fare.
