





Mon State organizes a ceremony to commemorate the 2024 World AIDS Day in Mawlamyine Township on 20th December. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein stressed that the year 2000 was the highest infection period of HIV within the nation with about 30,000 infectious patients.
In 2023, the infection rate was decreased to 10,400. Community based health care activities are being carried out for the easier access to vulnerable communities.
The government has increased the annual budget to purchase ART medical supplies, and as a result, the amount of the HIV patients who receive the ART treatment has increased to 5 times as of September 2024. The Chief Minister also called for the concerted efforts of the relevant organizations and individuals to prevent HIV infection, to eliminate discrimination against HIV patients and to build a community free from HIV/AIDS.
