




South Korean lawmakers began casting their secret ballots on a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived declaration of martial law. After most MPs from the ruling People Power Party (PPP) walked out before the vote, just three returned to cast ballots.
Opposition parties, which hold 192 seats in the 300-seat parliament filed the impeachment motion which requires 200 votes to pass.Only three PPP members cast ballots, but speaker Woo Won-shik stopped short of calling the result, appealing to PPP lawmakers to return "to protect the Republic of Korea and its democracy.Before the vote, Yoon apologised for the turmoil but said he would leave it to his party to decide his fate.
