





The ceremony of 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held at Khine Thazin Hall in Sittwe Township of Rakhine State on 3rd December. Attendees included Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, members of the State Government, departmental officials, teachers, students, representatives from social organizations, persons with disabilities, and invited guests.
At the event, Chief Minister U Htein Lin emphasized the importance of raising awareness and understanding of disability issues, promoting the dignity, human rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities, and advocating for their support. He explained that December 3rd has been designated as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by the United Nations, with annual observances held worldwide. For 2024, the UN's theme for the day is "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," highlighting the role of empowering persons with disabilities to lead toward a sustainable future.
Following the speech, a video message from the UN Secretary-General commemorating the day was presented. The Chief Minister and the officials then presented honorary gifts to the attending persons with disabilities. One recipient expressed gratitude on behalf of all the beneficiaries.
After that, a commemorative video documenting the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities was screened. The Chief Minister and government officials cordially and warmly greeted the attendees, it’s reported.
