5th AMMW opened: MSWRR UM delivered an opening speech

The opening ceremony of the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (5th AMMW) and Related Meetings, hosted by Myanmar under the coordination of the ASEAN Secretariat, was held at the M.Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.

The event was attended by the Chairman of Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement, Dr. Soe Win, alongside members of the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs, the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General, representatives from the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) and the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), as well as other invited guests.

In his opening speech, Union Minister Dr. Soe Win expressed his pride that Myanmar was hosting the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women. He emphasized the meeting's focus on promoting gender equality, empowering women, and protecting women's rights across the ASEAN region.

He noted that the theme of the meeting, "Towards an Inclusive Society through Gender Mainstreaming and Women Empowerment," underscores the need to build a society where everyone has equal opportunities to contribute and benefit from progress without discrimination. He further highlighted that integrating gender perspectives and empowering women are not only key objectives of the meeting but also essential strategies for achieving sustainable development, social justice, and economic growth in the ASEAN region. The 29th ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) Meeting, the 11th ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children with ASEAN Women’s Committee for Coordination, the 23rd ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) Meeting, the 16th ASEAN Committee on Women with ASEAN+3 Dialogue Partners Meeting, and the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW) will take place from 26th 29th of November.
