Visitors to Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture, North of Tokyo, are enjoying a palette of autumn colors along a spectacular gorge. Ryuokyo, or “Dragon King Gorge,” was formed by the Kinugawa River. The winding landscape is said to resemble a raging dragon.

At this time of year, maple trees and azaleas along the gorge take on hues of red and yellow, allowing visitors to enjoy both the magnificent terrain and autumn foliage. A tourist from Tokyo said the coloring of the leaves was more beautiful than she had expected. She said this is a landscape she cannot enjoy in Tokyo and it has a healing effect on her.
