In commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a Basic Education High School level essay competition was held with this year's theme “In the future, enhance the leadership capacity of persons with disabilities for long-term sustainability” at No. (11) Basic Education High School in Nay Pyi Taw from 10 to 11 AM on 19th November.

The event was attended by the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win, Deputy Minister, permanent secretary, Director-Generals and relevant officials. Totaling 84 students including  15 male and 69 female from the Basic Education High Schools in eight townships within the Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw, participated in the competition.

The winners of the competition will be awarded appropriately at the National Level Celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, to be held on December 3rd, in Nay Pyi Taw. The Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win received Mr Sajjad Mohammad Sajid, Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) at the Ministry’s reception hall on Tuesday.

During the meeting, both sides discussed UNOCHA’s humanitarian assistance to displaced persons in Myanmar, findings from the UN Emergency Directors Group (EDG)’s visit, and the signing of MOU between Myanmar’s Disaster Management Department and UNOCHA. They also addressed coordination on visas and travel permits for UNOCHA staff.
