Safeguarding Tradition: Annual Fireworks Competition in Kalaw

The traditional fireworks competition and lotus lantern processions took place in Kalaw of Shan State on November 16th.

The procession started from Koe Myoet Shin Shrine, marching along the Union Highway till the firework ground. After formal opening of the event, Chief Minister U Aung Aung explained the purposes of organizing the traditional fireworks competition, which aim to safeguard the cultural heritage, along with the development of tourism industry.

During the festival, 200 small hot air balloons were released while displaying fireworks along with the traditional cultural performances and entertainment programs by famous artists. Fifteen teams from Kalaw are participating in the competition which is set to be held from November 16th to 18th.
