




Amid rising cases of dengue, Japanese Encephalitis (JE), transmitted by mosquitoes, is spreading rapidly across Nepal.Recent data shows a 29% fatality rate among those infected. Infected individuals mostly include children under 15 years. More than 80 people have been infected till now while 23 have died of Japanese Encephalitis in Nepal.
Its symptoms include severe headaches, high fever, difficulty swallowing, and paralysis. The disease does not spread person-to-person, but precautions, such as sleeping under nets, are advised. Vaccination is available and free for children over 12 months old.
