Development of Libraries: Efforts for promoting reading habits of youths

With the aims of school libraries development, promoting reading habits of the students and sharing and practicing of knowledge, Development of Libraries and Promoting Reading Habits Festival took place at No.1 Basic Education High School in Taung Dwin Gyi Township of Magway Region on Friday.

Chief Minister U Tint Lwin and officials formally opened the ceremony by cutting ceremonial ribbon and presented cash of honour to those who contributed to the opening ceremony.  They then oversaw the displayed galleries, game programmes and book shops and provided foodstuff and purified drinking water to the students.

In the subsequent ceremony, the Chief Minister and party enjoyed the performance of the students at Pay Lay Pin hall, followed by screening of a video clip.

In his remarks, the Chief Minister said that through the Development of Libraries and Promoting Reading Habits Festivals, students and youths can nature their reading habits to become mentally and physically strong ones for the country.  He called for collaboration of all concerned officials in implementing libraries development and promotion of reading habits activities effectively.

After enjoying the performance of the students, the Chief Minister presented gift to writer Tin Lin Zaw, donated books and articals for school library. It was followed by presentation of cash of honour to performance troupes. Then, prizes were awarded to the winning students in impromptu, essay, poetry reading and storytelling competitions.

In the afternoon, the Chief Minister and party attended the opening ceremony of newly constructed Tat Nay Win Library at Wat Ka Thay village.  After formal opening of the facility, the Chief Minister and party took a tour to the library and instructed the needs.

The newly constructed library worth of 15 million kyats was implemented with the State Government fund and donation of well-wishers. Magway Region government is implementing to construct 21 new libraries within the region and currently, 6 new libraries have been constructed and are in operation.
