Alms-bowl drifting festival: Taninthayi Region CM participated in annual festival

The Annual Dawei Traditional Festival of Alms-bowl drifting ceremony was held at Dawei River Bank, People’s Park in Dawei Township at 4 AM on full moon day of Thadingyut which falls on October 17th this year.

First, the Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko opened the festival by igniting oil lamp dedicated to Ashin Upaguttha Thero and the Chief Minister, Chief Justice of Region High Court, Deputy Commander of Coastal Region Command, Region Ministers, Township elders, invited guests and local residents released 500 hot ballons simultaneously.

Next, the Chief Minister and officials offered ‘Alms-food’ dedicated to Ashin Upaguttha Thero by floating alms-bowl and the local residents also prayed their wishes by drifting the alms-bowl.

During the annual traditional festival of drifting alms-bowl, hosting charity feast to the participants, releasing mini hot balloons, performing Dawei traditional dances were carried out and the Chief Minister, invited guests and local residents enjoyed those entertainments.

The local residents participated in the traditional alms-bowl drifting festival with the teeming crowd from 4 to 6 AM, it’s reported.
