Tour in Tachileik: Inspection at Wanpon Jetty and flood damages in Tachileik

On October 5th, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung visited Wanpon Jetty in Tachiliek District.

In his meeting with the officials from Customs Department, the Chief Minister discussed the measures to counter illegal trade with inspection at the entrance and exit gates. He then toured around the Wanpon Jetty, assessing the erosion of Mekong River bank and the project site between Myanmar-Lao Mekong River Demarcation Nos.2 and 7.

In order to prevent river bank erosion, over 2,400 meters long dredging work will be carried out on the Myanmar side of Mekong River, along with the construction of 1,000 ft long retaining wall. Moreover, 5,100 ft long retaining wall will also be built on the Alluvial Land in Mekong River.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister met with departmental personnel from Tachileik District and Township offices, and discussed the measures to clear remains of silt due to the floods. Afterwards, the Chief Minister and party inspected the inundation of Meikhtila-Tachileik Road Section and its damages near Talay.
