Top EU court finds against FIFA in key transfer market ruling

EU's Court of Justice ruled against FIFA, saying that some of the football body's rules on player transfers violate the bloc's laws.

The Court was called on to settle a dispute between former French player Lassana Diarra and FIFA over what happens when a footballer unilaterally terminates their contract, with judges finding that by restricting their ability to seek further employment, current FIFA rules hinder the EU's free movement and competition between clubs.
