South Korea's deadly Halloween crowd crush in 2022

A South Korean court on Monday jailed the former district police chief overseeing Seoul's Itaewon neighbourhood to three years jail for failing to prevent a Halloween crowd crush that killed more than 150 people.

On the night of October 29, 2022, 159 people were killed and around 150 injured in a crush in Seoul. "It was foreseeable that there would be a large crowd of people in the sloped alley of Itaewon that would lead to serious danger to life and physical safety on the Halloween weekend in 2022," the Seoul Western District Court said in the guilty verdict.
