Library Development: Reading Habits Promotion Festival in Hkamti Township

Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw, alongside relevant officials, attended the Library Development and Reading Habits Promotion Festival at Hkamti Township Basic Education High School on Friday.

The ceremony commenced with ceremonial ribbon cut by the Chief Minister and other concerned officials. The Chief Minister then presented cash awards to the Drum and Bugle Corps and Pom-Pom Dance Troupes. The festival continued at the Kyan Sit Tha Hall, with a musical performance by students.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of reopening existing libraries to provide rural communities with greater access to reading materials. He also highlighted the ongoing construction of new libraries in wards and villages to encourage reading habit. He called on officials to create an environment that promotes reading and studying literature, particularly for today’s youth.

The Chief Minister urged collaboration among departmental officials, parents and teachers to ensure that students not only achieve literacy but also grow into knowledgeable individuals.

The Chief Minister then presented books and publications to the Chairman of the Hkamti District Administration Council, followed by the awarding of cash prizes and certificates of honor to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in the impromptu talk, essay, painting, storytelling and poem recitation contests and performing troupes.

The Chief Minister and party later cordially greeted the festival attendees, toured the collection of books, publications, and commemorative photos on display, observed roundtable discussion and competitions in children reading room while presenting memorable gifts.
