







Seminar on energy efficiency in food sector implemented with Maekong-Lancang Cooperation Special fund 2023 took place at the hall of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Lanmadaw Township of Yangon.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director General from the Directorate of Industrial Cooperation under the Ministry of Industry, Maekong-Lancang Cooperation Negotiation Team (Myanmar) and concerned officials while the Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than joined the seminar with virtual system.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that the project is conducted with the aims for promotion productivity with low production costs through efficient energy utilization practices in foodstuff industries. The Union Minister emphasized for utilization of energy systematically and preservation of energy resources which is essential for beings.
The Ministry of Industry established National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Policy, Strategy and Roadmap in 2016 based on the energy consumption of 2012, Myanmar intend to reduce energy by 20% by the year 2030. During the meeting, discussions on utilization of high-performance machines and mechanical tools in producing processes and practicing of technologies on effective energy usage were made.
Then, the attendees made sector-wise discussion and the meeting was concluded. In the afternoon, work coordination meeting on local edible oil sufficiency took place at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Industry with the presence of the Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung and many other concerned officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Ministry for Industry said that collaborative efforts of concerned ministries are made for local edible oil sufficiency and determining on the need of local edible oil based on regions and states oil production statistics.
Next, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation made clarification upon expending of edible oil crops cultivation and expected to harvest exceeding targeted amount. And, he added, coordination will be made with oil crops growers and oil millers in order to ensure edible oil sufficiency in domestic consumption.
After the detailed reports made by the Director General from the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection and discussions of step by step working processes for local edible oil sufficiency by the attendees, the meeting was concluded.
