Yangon Region launched Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) administration on Sunday. The ceremony, held in Hlaingthaya (East) Township, was attended by Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win, who delivered the opening speech.

The Ministry of Health is implementing measures to prevent and control severe diarrhea in collaboration with the Regional Government, Yangon City Development Committee, relevant departments, UN organizations, and community-based organizations.

Recognizing vaccination as an effective disease control strategy, a proposal was submitted to the International Coordinating Group through the World Health Organization (WHO) for vaccine provision. On September 19th, over 2.4 million doses of OCV, valued at more than 4 million US dollars, were received. The vaccine will be administered to individuals aged one year and older residing in diarrhea-prone areas across 35 townships in the Yangon Region from September 22nd to October 3rd. Plans are also in place to extend vaccination efforts to other regions and states at risk for diarrhea.
