Agricultural Development: Irrigation facilities in Meikhtila inspected

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo BoKyaw met with Mandalay Region, District and Township level Agricultural officials on 4th September. 

During the meeting, greening of the Meikhtila plain, implementing the monsoon and summer paddy cultivation and edible oil projects, meeting the targeted yield of sunflower and cotton with extended cultivation, systematic management of storage water in dams and lakes, ensuring better irrigation system and cooperation between departmental officials and local growers for transforming cultivating techniques were discussed.

On the 5th of September, the Deputy Minister inspected the irrigation system at Meikhtila South and North Lakes, maintaining the irrigation system and water storage.

The Deputy Minister then instructed the officials to expand the cultivation in the catchment areas, to extract underground water and other possible sources at the areas with difficult water access, to reduce the waste of water and to educate the farmers on alternate irrigation method.
