The Ministry of Labour has issued Order 108/2024 under Section 31(b) of the Law Relating to Overseas Employment. This order mandates that overseas employees remit at least 25% of their monthly earnings, either monthly or quarterly, to their family accounts and their own account using official banking services, Central Bank of Myanmar-authorized remittance services, or international remittance systems within the banking framework.
Employees must retain all remittance documents to ensure their right to white money under the law. Copies of remittance documents must be sent to the relevant agencies managing their overseas employment. Employment agencies are required to assist employees in facilitating remittances and must report the remittance details monthly to the Ministry of Labour.
Non-compliance with these regulations may result in restrictions on leaving for overseas jobs, denial of Overseas Worker Identification Card issuance and non-extension of passports. Employees are strongly advised to utilize official remittance channels and avoid illegal Hundi services to ensure adherence to these new regulations.
