Peru's President swears in new foreign minister

Peruvian President Dina appointed political scientist Elmer as the country's new Minister of Foreign Affairs at a swearing-in ceremony held at government headquarters in Lima on Tuesday.

The political scientist replaces conservative academic Javier who had been in office since November 2023. The change comes amid diplomatic tensions between Peru and Venezuela after Venezuela's National Electoral Council declared President Maduro the winner of the July 28 presidential elections.
