Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi took part in a situational assessment and initial inquiry at the site of a deadly shooting in Tarqumiya checkpoint, near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, where three police officers where killed.

Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir also visits the scene of the attack. Sunday's shooting comes as Israeli forces pressed on with a widespread operation in the West Bank since Wednesday.

More than 1,000 people demonstrated outside the prime minister's office. They called for a ceasefire deal and the return of the remaining hostages, even if it requires accepting Hamas's demand for a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
