Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing gave a commemorative speech to the public concerning the 2024 Population and Housing Census on Sunday.
In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of conducting the Population and Housing Census, which is held once every ten years, from October 1 to 15 across the country to implement development projects effectively.
He mentioned that the government has been making arrangements to conduct a nationwide census in line with international norms. Preparations have been carried out in phases over the past three years, and it is now ready to start the enumeration process.
He added that a country’s development can be assessed by studying the population and socio-economic statistics it provides. That is why obtaining accurate data and statistics for the entire nation is crucial. These statistics reflect the country’s development status and serve as a mirror of its progress. He added that the population and housing census, to be conducted from October 1 to 15, 2024, is a self-reliant national initiative supported by local human resources.
This process cannot be achieved by an individual or an organization alone but requires the collective strength of all citizens across the country, demonstrating the nation's power on the international stage. Furthermore, it presents a valuable opportunity to set a historic milestone through the collective participation of everyone.
Therefore, recognizing the census as a national initiative, he urged all citizens to cooperate with the motto: 'Let’s conduct the census with public participation.'
