Kayin Traditional White Thread Tying Ceremony, jointly organized by the Tanintharyi Region Minister for Ethnic Affairs and Kayin Literature and Culture Committee, was held in Dawei on 30th August.The ceremony commenced with the formal opening of the ceremonial arch by cutting the ribbon, followed by saluting the Kayin nation flag.

The ceremony continued by striking the Minglar PharSi (Frog Drum) and the performance of Kayin traditional Don Dance. Kayin people celebrate the Traditional White Thread Tying Ceremony with the aims to achieve unity among the entire Kayin people, to promote Kayin cultural heritage and to cherish the Kayin traditional custom by the next generation.

The event is usually held in the month of Wahgaung, and it is also known as Wahgaung Wrist Tying Ceremony. During this festival, participants receive white thread tying among others, enjoying the reunification of the family members and relatives.

This festival, cherishingly handed down from the Kayin ancestors, also represent unity and national spirit.  Any national can participate in the white thread tying ceremony, the lovely traditional custom, preserved by Kayin people.
