Forest Conservation: MONREC Union Minister tours in Shan State

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi along with Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung met with the staff from Forest, Mining and Environment sectors at the Forest Department in Taunggyi on 24th August.

During the meeting, the Union Minister said that it is necessary to carry out the tasks with the concepts of Green Mining and Responsible Mining for ensuring sustainability of forest resources and environmental conservation. He also instructed to accelerate the momentum of prevention of illegal trade in timber and minerals.  

During the meeting, cash assistance and provisions were presented to the staff. Next, the Union Minister and Chief Minister observed thriving of forest plantations, watershed plantation and pine trees plantation in Taunggyi bird sanctuary and Taunggyi Firewood Reserved Area.

During the inspection, he instructed to conduct greening measures in the vicinity of Taunggyi as well as preserving the watershed areas and expanding the plantations.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister arrived at HtiThain lake spring and inspected the thriving of pine plantation. The Union Minister and Chief Minister later proceeded to Hopone in Wa Self-administered Zone and observed the progress of construction of new office building for forest Department.

Then, the Union Minister and Chief Minister viewed the 42-acres of plantation along Hopone-Loilem motor road. At LweTant Village in Hopone Township, the Union Minister met with local residents and clarified the aim and benefits of establishing community forest plantations, status of successful implementation home and abroad. 

Later, the Union Minister observed the mixed crop plantation in the community forest areas of LweTant Village.
