Foreign ministers of China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand on Friday reached a consensus on tackling cross-border crimes such as telecommunications scam, human and drug trafficking with intensified quadrilateral cooperation. The consensus was reached at an informal meeting attended by the four foreign ministers in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Only when the countries in the region intensify their joint efforts to fight crimes, can the high incidence trend of illegal and criminal activities be effectively reversed, said Wang, noting that as the Global Security Initiative (GSI), proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, has received active response, the four countries have successfully carried out joint operations to combat cross-border crimes on the basis of mutual respect of sovereignty.
