Maduro dismisses Lula and Petro proposal for new elections

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro distanced himself from the proposal made earlier by his Brazilian and Colombian counterparts on calling for new elections after Maduro's contested reelection for a third consecutive six-year term.

In his statement, he "totally and absolutely" rejects, saying that the US government“pretends to become the electoral authority in Venezuela."
