


People in Japan celebrated the 79th anniversary of the end of World War Two on Thursday.
Every year, the Japanese government organizes a ceremony in Tokyo to remember the approximately 3.1 million people who died in the war and pray for peace.Around 4,000 attendees, including bereaved family members from all 47 prefectures, participated in a memorial ceremony.
This gathering, the largest since the coronavirus pandemic began, marked the first time in five years that attendees came from every prefecture.Participants at the ceremony offered chrysanthemum flowers as a symbol of respect for the war dead and to pray for lasting peace.
