Agriculture Development: Discussion on production of value-added agricultural products

Round table discussion on production of value-added agricultural products took place at the assembly hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Ministers Dr. Tin Htut and U Bo BoKyaw, Directors General and concerned officials and officials from other regions and states joined the discussion via online. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Minister U Bo Bo Kyaw said that country’s summer and monsoon paddy plantation occupies 17 million acres annually and removing crop residue by setting firecan increase the risk of soil erosion.

In order to reduce removing crop residue, the ministry is making effort to conduct training on producing of value-added products by using crop residue such as animal food, potting soil, and promoting rice straw managing habits as well as mushroom plantation.

Also, the ministry is conducting research on mushroom plantation for high yielding by assisting necessary technology. Mushroom plantation can make income for the growers in a short time and can assist foodstuff and source of nourishment for individual.

After making discussion on mushroom plantation processes, current mushroom market and conducting training courses about mushroom at Yezin Agricultural University by the experts from Agricultural Department, Department of Agricultural Research and Yezin Agricultural University, the attendees made suggestion. The round table discussion was concluded making necessary discussion by Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut.
