Oil Sufficiency: Efforts for boosting production of oil crops

Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin on Thursday attended a demostration ceremony of model farm of high yield monsoon sasame at PayaPyo Village in Magway Township.

First, the Chief Minister and party heard the reports on step by step sasame plantation by the officials.

During the meeting with local sasame growers, the Chief Minister said this demostration event was organized by the Agriculture Department to provide knowledge on oil crop plantation for the growers.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister provided fertilizer and seeds to the farmers. Magway Township is listed in the special oil crop zone (1) of the region and at present, over 110,000 acres of sasame and over 80,000 acres of peanut have been cultivated.

Likewise, over 990,000 acres of oil crops such as peanut, sasame and sunflower will be cultivated in the special zone. To meet the targeted yield and designated areas, the Agricultural Department will provide good quality seeds and technology assistance for the growers by collaboration with related departments. Also, the department will conduct educative talks for systamatic usage of irrigated water.
